A Collector’s Tale Talk

Worcester Porcelain – A Collector’s Tale Talk by Colin Millett

Colin Millett has been an enthusiastic collector of Worcester Porcelain for over 40 years. His illustrated and informative talk details some of his most amusing experiences as he travelled the length and breadth of the country looking to acquire a new piece to add to his fabulous private collection over that period.

In addition , he will talk about some of the men and women painters whose representative pieces  he has in his extensive collection,  and their skills  and work  which  down the years were responsible for establishing Worcester porcelain as one of the finest  ceramic producing  factories in the world.

An entertaining talk for anyone with an interest in or is a collector of Worcester porcelain.

Colin is the author of “Worcester Porcelain – A Collector’s Tale”. Signed copies of his booklet may be purchased from the museum shop.

We are also pleased to provide three different refreshment packages each of which is served on our very best Royal Worcester china, for more details click here. If you would like something a little different we should be pleased to talk to our caterers and obtain prices and fresh menus.  We can for example provide tea and coffee on arrival, afternoon tea, soup and sandwiches or hot lunches!

Our favourite quote from Henry Sandon, who frequently features on the BBC Antiques Road Show, is that visiting the museum is his “Ideal Day Out!” and we very much hope that we can offer your party a day that equals his enjoyment!

Private: Museum Refurbishment

A gentle soft opening took place on 1st June.  The £1.7M gallery refurbishment is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund and as well as featuring the skills and workforce that made Royal Worcester famous it triumphs the pride associated with production.  Over 200 ex-factory workers have shared their living memories and a number demonstrate their skills in the galleries on a regular basis.

Two of our most important objectives are to appeal to families and up and coming generations and in support of that we entered into a collaboration with the High Street fashion Store OASIS last summer to deliver a 28-piece clothing range based on designs from our archives. We have just returned from RHS Malvern Spring Garden Show where we promoted the soft reopening in June and this autumn we are joining forces with Meadow Arts to mount an exhibition of contemporary porcelain makers who will be using the collections as inspiration for their works.  Another delightful, and already popular display, is the ‘Family Parlour’ where children are encouraged to take inspiration from the displays and create their own stories.
