We are pleased to announce that our new permanent display ‘Dr Wall’s Dinner’ has won the Food on Display Award at the inaugural British Library Food Season Awards!
The project, coordinated by The Museum of Royal Worcester and funded by the Arts Council England, was created and delivered with partners Multi-Award Winning Food Historian Dr Neil Buttery, Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe and Heart of Worcestershire College.
Dr. Wall’s Dinner was curated by is a visually dramatic installation that brings to life the food and drink eaten off and served on Worcester porcelain, as well as thinking about the behind-the-scenes roles of the staff who prepared the food for the table.
Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe took inspiration and created original poems, from poets age 13 to 93, celebrating the ‘Language of porcelain and food‘, now displayed across our galleries. Neil created hands-on historic food workshops for adults, families and young people. Heart of Worcestershire College Hospitality and Catering students took part in an intricate Georgian pastry masterclass. Watch a video on the project here.
A special thank you to the project curator Natasha Wilcockson for all of the hard work bringing everyone together. We’re so thankful to judges chef Nadiya Hussian, Food Historian Polly Russell, Scent Designer and Food Historian Tasha Marks and Elly Magson for choosing us. Here’s what the judges said:
“The judges were all drawn to the detail and creativity of Dr Wall’s Dinner at the Museum of Royal Worcester. The display and accompanying programme explored several interesting narratives around Georgian Dining, in a way that was both educational and visually striking. It was a wonderful example of how food can be used to animate a collection and reach different audiences.”
We hope Dr Wall would have been very pleased too! Congratulations too to all other winners and nominees!
Come and see our new award proudly on display in our Georgian Gallery.
