Museum launches lockdown inspiration on national #MuseumFromHome day

  • 30 April 2020

The Museum has launched some exciting new resources for people to connect with our collections and find inspiration in lockdown. While not able to welcome visitors in person we’ve been sharing images and insights from our galleries and archive on social media with the hashtag #MuseumFromHome. Now Thursday 30 April has been made national #MuseumFromHome day – supported by BBC Arts ‘Culture in Quarantine’ project. It is a whole day of sharing ‘everything museums’ across social media, TV and radio with people at home and we’re excited to be taking part.

You can now discover inspiration online where we’re sharing the visual riches and stories of the collection and coming up with ways for people to connect and get creative themselves! Enjoy a virtual tour of the Museum by taking the illustrated audio-guide online – newly available free-of-charge during lockdown thanks to Antenna International, providers of our on-site guide. Listen to a short clip of Museum Trustee and TV antiques expert Philip Serrell taking from home about a favourite piece of Worcester porcelain. And get creative with our new activity sheets inspired by the collections, ideal for families to enjoy together. Discover the Museum from home HERE

Museum trustee Philip Serrell says

Museums are not about yesterday, they’re about today! We want to hear about your favourite Worcester porcelain objects and what they mean to you and see your creations – post your stories and designs with the hashtag #museumfromhome and tag the Museum @TheMoRW

It’s been tough closing the doors just as the Museum enters the busy Spring season, wiping out our income and putting this magnificent inheritance in jeopardy. You can help support the Museum to get through these challenging times and beyond by making a donation at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/LockdownInspirationMuseumofRoyalWorcs

We really look forward to welcoming you to the Museum in safer times, where you can collect a one-year season ticket as a token of our appreciation for donations over £25.
