The Museum of Royal Worcester is a charity that relies on funding from a wide range of sources. We welcome support from generous individuals. Remembering the Museum of Royal Worcester by leaving a gift in your will, no matter what size helps us to develop the museum and care for our collections.
It is simple to leave a legacy, however, we would always advise you to consult a legal advisor if you are making a Will or changing your wishes to ensure that no technical mistakes are made. This is especially important for supporters outside England and Wales, where different laws apply.
Why leave a legacy to the Museum of Royal Worcester?
The Museum of Royal Worcester is a self-funded independent registered charity. When the Royal Worcester factory closed in 2009, the museum lost a large part of its funding and is now funded by visitor entry, profits from the Museum Shop and donations from individuals.
Leaving a gift in your will to us makes a huge difference to the future of the Museum. Your legacy will help the Museum stay open and be sustainably developed to ensure that this unique collection of Worcester Porcelain is available to future generations.
Any amount you leave to charity in your Will is currently free of inheritance tax. Charitable gifts are deducted from your estate before inheritance tax is worked out. If your estate is liable to Inheritance tax, you could reduce the amount due by making the decision to give money to a charity.
Different types of legacy
If you would like to leave money to the Museum of Royal Worcester there are three main types of legacy that you might consider.
A gift of a particular sum of money for example £1,000 that can be index-linked to maintain its value in line with inflation.
Leaving the whole, or part of your estate when all other commitments have been settled.
A specific legacy is a gift of one or more specific objects to the Museum. In this instance please first consult with the Museum to ensure the current acquisition policy meets your requirements.
The following passage can be adapted to suit the type of gift you wish to leave us:
‘I give the sum of £xxx/xxx% share of residue of my estate / item specified to the Museum of Royal Worcester, Dyson Perrins Museum Trust, Severn Street, Worcester WR1 2ND for its general charitable purposes. I declare that the receipt of the Director for the time being of the Museum of Royal Worcester shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executor.’
