2026 is an exciting year marking the 275th Anniversary of the founding of Dr. Wall’s Porcelain Works and the signing of the deed in June 1751. A celebration of one of the earliest, pioneering and first commercially successful works in England – crucial in the history of transfer-printing and the Midlands industrial revolution.

We will mark the anniversary with a series of events, including an Afternoon Tea on Saturday 20 June, 1pm-3pm. This heritage-inspired event will take place in the elegant setting of Henry Sandon Hall, which was originally the porcelain factory showroom that opened in 1852.

Joining us for this celebration over tea and cake will be an exclusive panel of Worcester Porcelain experts, who will be delighted to share their knowledge and memories of the manufactory. Our announced panellists are:

  • Philip Serrell, accomplished auctioneer, author and familiar face on TV’s Antiques Road TripBargain Hunt and Flog It!, and Chair of Museum Trustees
  • Paul Crane, descendant of the founder of Worcester Porcelain, Dr. John Wall, consultant to the Brian Haughton Gallery in London, curator of the James Giles display in the Museum, and Museum Trustee.
  • John Sandon, the leading authority on Worcester porcelain, consultant for British Ceramics and Glass at Bonhams but is best known as a long-standing specialist on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. Museum Trustee and son of the late Henry Sandon.
  • Jane Tudge, Worcester Porcelain enthusiast and expert

The Museum of Royal Worcester and Royal Porcelain Works invite guests to enjoy a sumptuous selection of sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and cakes inspired by the the 1951 Bicentenary dinner that was held in Worcester Guildhall for all factory workers.

Museum director, Kate Travers, said:

“Guests will enjoy tradition, artistry, and creative deliciousness as they savour afternoon tea served in Royal Worcester, finding out more about the history of Worcester Porcelain —the perfect celebration of our legacy.”
