You will make a set of 4-6 small coffee cups, a sugar bowl and small milk jug using stoneware clay and glazes. The course will include an introduction to ceramics, involve a variety of hand-building and wheel throwing techniques and will take inspiration from the Chocolate and coffee cups in the Museum – along with more contemporary design. The Course is flexible, designed for beginner and intermediate levels. No previous experience necessary.
This is a creative opportunity to develop skills from scratch, as well as extending and broadening approaches and techniques, building on those covered in any previous clay courses you may have attended. Sessions are ideal for both new and returning students. For returning students, you will be discuss your own projects with the tutor to build upon previous skills and experience (Please contact the tutor through the Museum to discuss your ideas prior to confirming your place on the course)
Cost £187 per person
Participants will have the opportunity to experiment widely, leaving the course having created finished, glazed pieces. Pieces made will need to be collected two weeks after the course is completed.
The induction session on 29th January (7-9pm) is an important session, for all course participants. At the session we will cover an introduction to clay as a material and a brief overview of its place in human culture. We will also cover health and safety and briefly explore the museum.
