Paint Your Own Pottery Children’s Party FAQ’s

What age group is a Paint Your Own Pottery Party suitable for?
Our parties are suitable for children over 6 years. The minimum number for a party booking is 6 participants and the maximum is 36.

As a guide, 6 – 7 years – 1.5 hrs (includes 30 mins for food), 7 years+  2hrs (includes 30 mins for food)

How do I book a party at the Museum of Royal Worcester?
As our Paint Your Own Pottery Parties are popular, we recommend booking as far ahead as possible and at least a fortnight in advance. We offer time slots at 10:15am, 12.15pm or 2.15pm from Tuesday till Saturday,  and Sundays 10:15am or 12:15pm due to earlier close (or speak to us if you would like a different time and duration). Once a date has been found, we require an agreement of our Paint Your Own Pottery Terms and Conditions and we will reserve your time slot.

Can I bring decorations to my Paint Your Own Pottery Party?
Yes, you are welcome to bring suitable decorations for the space provided.

Can I bring party music?
Yes, you can hire our Exhibition Hall and a speaker.

Can I book out the whole of the Museum studio for my party?
When it is available, we can offer the Exhibition Hall hire for an additional charge. This means you get the Hall to yourself – perfect for a few party games and party food. Please note other Museum visitors might be enjoying the exhibits in this space. If you would like to book out the entire pottery studio this can be arranged for an additional price. Please ask when making your booking.

Are there kitchen facilities at the Museum?
We don’t have kitchen facilities to utilise at the Museum. All utensils required (cutlery, plates, cups, napkins etc) will need to be brought to the Museum by the party organiser and taken home afterwards. Party food can not be served in the PYOP Studio. It can be served in the Exhibition Hall when available. We request that no nuts or nut based foods are brought to the Museum.

Can I leave children unattended during the party?

Please accompany your children during the session. We recommend up to two supervising adults present per painting table of up to 6 children for parties. Two free-of-charge supervising adult tickets will be provided per booking. If you have more than two adults attending, please purchase a supervising adult ticket to access the spaces where the party is held.

Are refreshments available at the Museum?
Catering can be provided including soft drinks, tea and coffee and a lunch box with additional cost, which might save you the job of making lots of sandwiches – this needs to be ordered via tiffany@museumofroyalworcester.org at least 14 days in advance.

When will our party pottery be ready?
Once you and your guests have finished painting, you will leave the item in our capable hands. We will glaze and fire them in our kiln. Colours will become richer, and your item will have a hard shiny clear surface – which is food safe.

We need 21 days to glaze and fire (this may be longer during busy periods), and will then contact you by phone to let you know your items are ready for collection. We can also charge postage to post items to one address only.

We will store your item for 3 months after we have contacted you to collect. After this time, your pieces will be either donated or disposed of.

Where are you located?
We are located close to the Cathedral, nearby parking, and just a short walk from the high street.  If you are using SatNav or GPS, enter postcode: WR1 2NE for the most accurate location.

There is plenty of pay and display parking adjacent to the Museum on Severn Street and Kings Street Car Park. We have cycle racks and offer free coach parking for pre-booked group visits. There is also free street parking for 3 hours on Severn street with a blue badge. Worcester City Car Parks take cash or you can use the RingGo parking app.
