William Ashley, gilder, known as Bill or ‘Biffo’. Born 1913, came to the factory in 1928 under Tom Morton. Did raised colour and general gilding. In 1952 did the Worcester work on the Queen’s Beasts in Stoke, and various presentation services for the Queen. Foreman of Printers’ department from 1955-60 but hated the job. A keen fisherman and cyclist.
