‘Marks of the Manufactory’ links significant locations around the site of the original manufactory.

A bronze cast sculpture, in the form of a vessel resembling preserved fragments, evokes the timeless quality of the products which made Royal Worcester Porcelain a global success. The sculpture brings to life a pencil sketch from a design book in the museum archive.

Six wall mounted ‘Hallmarks’ are placed throughout the original factory site. They combine the architectural drawings of the kilns with transfer prints that made Worcester ware so recognisable. The photographs in the hallmarks relate to their location and a historic soundtrack can be heard by scanning the QR code on each hallmark.

Neil Musson and Jono Retallick are award winning artists specialising in artworks which relate directly to the location in which they are sited. In this case, extensive archive research has resulted in a ‘behind the scenes’ view of Royal Worcester.

In May 2024, Year 7 and Year 9 students from Nunnery Wood High School created a series of brilliant podcasts. Using the oral histories (recorded interviews) of former Worcester porcelain factory workers, the students worked alongside Oral Historian Julia Letts and History teacher Lauren Thatcher—who is also a former museum volunteer.

You can explore their fantastic work and listen to the podcasts here.
