An elegant 1904 design for a vase in pencil, ink and watercolour on paper created by Frederick Thorpe (1857-1932) from the Museum of Royal Worcester archive of factory designs and pattern books.

Frederick Thorpe trained in South Kensington at what is now the Royal College of Art. He joined the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company in 1883 aged 26, becoming Art Superintendent by 1904.  The 1891 census describes him as ‘Designer of Art Pottery’.
