Father’s Day Paint-Your-Own-Pottery – make dad a unique gift for Father’s Day this year with a Paint-Your-Own-Pottery session at the Museum. We have plenty of items to choose from, and for smaller members of the family, why not paint their hand or foot print onto a mug or plate so he’ll always remember how tiny they were. Paint by Wednesday 7 June to have items back in time for the day or book in good time for a special family time on Father’s Day weekend 17-18 June.
You can choose from mugs, bowls, plates, tiles, boxes and even egg cups to make sure breakfast is perfect for the special man in your life. We’ve also got bird boxes, tea light holders and of course water bowls for your four legged friends.
You’ll be surrounded by inspiration in our Ceramic Studio in our 20th century gallery, plus our friendly staff are on hand to help. Book at table for you or a group of up to six people, then relax as you’ll have an hour and half to try out your artistic skills.
If you have time, you can also explore the Museum before or after your Father’s Day Paint-Your-Own-Pottery session. Discover our collections, plus we have plenty of fun activities for children including our themed Family Explorer backpacks and trails.

Prefer to paint together at home? No problem. We have PYOP Home Kits available with everything you need, then return to us for glazing and firing. PYOP Home Kits also make wonderful creative presents.
We need 7 – 10 days to glaze and fire (if this is for a gift please ensure you leave plenty of time), and will then contact you to let you know your item is ready for collection. We can post your item back to you for an additional cost – speak to a member of staff if this is required.

How does it work?
Book as an individual or as a group, then browse our range of ceramic items and make a selection. Our prices range from £9 upwards.
You’ll be seated at your own table, with a range of colours and tools to use, with staff on hand to offer inspiration and assistance if required.
Once you’ve finished painting, you will leave the items in our capable hands. We will glaze it and fire it in our kiln. Colours will become richer, and your item will have a hard shiny clear surface – which is food-safe should you wish to use it once you take it home.
