Internships and Work Experience

Opportunities regularly exist at the Museum to volunteer or take a placement as part of gaining valuable work experience and a reference on a relevant course, such as Museum Studies, history or heritage, marketing communications or business. Please note we don’t currently support volunteering or placements for under-18s due to supervisory capacity.

Barbara is a final year student studying for a degree in Journalism at The University of Worcester and needed to secure a related internship. Such was her enthusiasm, she started volunteering remotely for The Museum from her home in Madrid, Spain last year.

“I can’t decide what I like the most because I would say everything is fantastic. I like working with the incredible team I have met and being able to be in a professional environment surrounded by very friendly people who are willing to help me if I need it, and who encourage me and value my work. “I think this experience is going to help me a lot when it comes to working life.”

Jacob Hawker recently undertook a work placement with us for two days a week over seven months as part of his History Degree at the University of Bath Spa. Gaining experience with Collections and Development activities meant Jacob added real value to the planning and set-up of the ‘Botanical Treasures’ exhibition. He assisted with event promotion, social media, web content, and even curated two cabinets for the exhibition.

“It was a fantastic experience … I was able to develop key skills needed for my future in an environment that both supported and challenged me.”

Millie, a Journalism Student says

‘Volunteering at the Museum I have learnt a great deal and gained experience. I would recommend volunteering here to anyone as I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute!’
